One of the famous Ksour in the region, the Ksar of Ait Ben Haddou is a striking example of traditional southern Moroccan architecture, perched on the side of a hill the Ksar of Ait Ben Haddou is presented as a whole of earthen buildings surrounded by walls, the ksar, which is a type of traditional pre-Saharan habitat. The houses are grouped inside its defensive walls reinforced by corner towers. Ksar has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1987.
Welcome to the southern gate and the keys of desets “Ouarzazate” in the Draâ Tafilalet region. Located at 1150 meters above sea level, at the confluence of the Dadès and Imini wadis forming the Drâa, it is the main urban center of the valley of this river. Its innumerable adobe kasbahs, arid mountains and plains, green valleys and oases, palm groves and villages of red or ocher earth make the charm of this region and give it its tourist appeal.
The symbol of the city is the Taourirt kasbah which belonged to Pacha El Glaoui, it was built around the middle of the 18th century. It is represented in the new 50 dirham notes and adjoins the medina. Ait Ben Haddou is a commune in Morocco located in the province of Ouarzazate.
